First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis

Description
This course applies to a range of settings where emergencies involving allergic reaction may occur. It is relevant for
people working in childcare, education, aged and community care, tourism, hospitality and other workplace and
community settings.

 

Duration

  • 3 hours face-to-face classroom/workplace training and assessment
    with online/workbook pre-work, OR
  • Full face-to-face classroom/workplace training and assessment is available

 

Course Content
The course contains two units.
VU21800 Provide first aid management of anaphylaxis

 

This unit covers:

  • Triggers, signs and symptoms of mild to moderate allergic reactions and anaphylaxis
  • Emergency response to anaphylaxis, including ASCIA action plans.
  • Use of adrenaline autoinjector devices
  • Communicating details to emergency services and incident reporting procedures
  • Evaluating the response to an anaphylaxis incident

 

VU21801 Develop risk minimisation and risk management strategies for anaphylaxis

 

This unit covers:

  • Development of individual anaphylaxis management plans
  • Risk assessment for allergies
  • Implementation of strategies to minimise allergic reaction risk
  • Development of communication plans to raise awareness
